Cwm Clyd - Carthouse Villa - Rhayader

During my recent stay at Cwm Clyd, Carthouse, I was captivated by the fine location and the peaceful atmosphere. The picturesque natural landscape surrounded by beautiful hills left me in awe. The opportunity to witness the dark skies, including the Milky Way and a meteor shower, was lovely. The abundance of wildlife, especially the variety of birds and even spotting Polecats, added to the enchanting experience. Exploring the reservoirs and walking along the rivers and hills was a highlight of my trip. I also highly recommend visiting Pen Y Garreg dam for a unique and fascinating experience. The nearby town of Rhayader with its charming shops and local produce is worth a visit, and Gilfach Nature Reserve offers another great nature-filled experience. The Elan Valley visitor centre provided all the necessary information about the area's dams, reservoirs, and activities.

While my overall stay at Cwm Clyd, Carthouse was wonderful, I did encounter a few minor drawbacks. It would have been perfect to have a comfortable chair or sofa to relax in after a long day of exploring the beautiful hills.

cwm clyd - carthouse in rhayader was even better than our previous stay. the location was breathtaking, with a quiet stream and stunning natural landscape. we saw incredible wildlife and enjoyed walking the reservoirs. the accommodation was beautifully restored and had all the amenities we needed, including wifi!

Stunning location, serene atmosphere near a stream. Cozy kitchen for family curry nights with a log fire. Old stone buildings restored beautifully. Breathtaking views of Claerwen Reservoir in Elan Valley. Informative visitor center in nearby town.

We stayed at Cwm Clyd - Carthouse for a few days and it was the perfect rustic and basic base for exploring the area. The wildlife was amazing, with an abundance of birds and even polecats. The reservoirs and hills provided stunning walking trails, and we highly recommend visiting the Pen Y Garreg dam. The nearby town of Rhayader was charming, with lovely shops and local produce. it was a fantastic experience and we look forward to returning.

The unexpected bonus was the WiFi, which was a lifesaver as the valley had network issues. the facilities and amenities provided everything we needed for a rustic and basic stay.
